IE won’t run JavaScript

I’ve been battling in work recently with an issue with IE 7/8 neither browser will run JavaScript, I have had our service desk trying to fix it for the last 2 months with no success. Anyway today I’ve been doing some last minute CSS and JavaScript fixes for our big release next week and I had to check fixes in IE,  so as a final resort I went to Google again to see if I could fix it (I Googled “IE won’t run JavaScript”) and what should come up a posting on experts-exchange (the answer is at the bottom of the page). Step 3 worked for me.

1. Go to Tools > Options > Security tab > Customize.  Scroll down to Javascript or Script area and enable all Javascript options.Click OK. Restart IE.
2. You might want to refresh your scripting engine:
Link Dead – Link out of date!
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
3. Sometimes there’s a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools | Internet Options and click Delete Files.
3a. Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll
3b. Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll
(WinXP users who have problems with 3a and 3b, see
4. Re-register all DLLs listed in
5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser
extensions (uncheck & reboot).
